Introducing "Isolba of the Isles"

Isolba of the Isles, Book 1

Isolba, daughter of the chief of Clan MacKay, struggles with her sense of self. Betrothed to marry out to a rival clan, she sets her sights on a new life in the isles. Yet the druid priest Baltair warns of an early death and hints of mysterious powers within her. When inclement weather plagues their island, social unrest erupts within the clan. Baltair chooses Isolba as an honorable sacrifice to appease the angry gods, but she rejects her fate.

Rindan, a young crofter on the neighboring island of Teutatwen, is confident in his identity and skill as a cliff-climber. He is fiercely loyal to his family but after the most desirable lass on the island passes him over, he longs to breach the boundaries of his archipelago and discover what calls to him. Because travel is impossible on the rough ocean swells, his emptiness grows as the storms pummel the island and leave his people in darkness and famine.

Beneath the guise of a lad, Isolba embarks on a journey to find her betrothed and seek refuge. She crosses paths with a spirit hound, accidentally visits the Otherworld, and is left questioning her reality and purpose. When she arrives on the banks of Teutatwen, she discovers Rindan is no stranger to her soul.

Though duty-bound to provide her sanctuary, the islanders clash with this outsider. They dislike her entitlement as superstition and mistrust cloud their perception of her. Overcome by a sense of protection over the newcomer, Rindan teaches Isolba the ways of their island. She basks under his veil of safety and her heart is stirred by his kindness. Yet after a foolish climb plunges Rindan into the dimension between earth and the Otherworld, it is up to Isolba to try to save him.
